Embracing Love

Embracing Love speaks to an early relationship of mine. The color scheme was my main focus in creating this piece with the symbols falling in close second. The contrasting red and the blues represent the hot and cold nature of our early relationship. One moment we were red, embracing all of each other’s greatness and flaws, creating full and lasting memories; at other times, we were blue, pulling away from each other, withholding our hearts in an attempt to save our selves from the potential pain and heartache love can bring. The yellow represents the energy between us. The open and closed hands support the color choices and the heart is created from the two hands, representing love prevailing through any situation.

Cordycep

Imagine life as an ant in the jungle. Now come up with all of the possible ways that your life as an ant could end. The most unique and undesired death as an ant holds little ground on that of a cordycep death. The systematic destruction of the ant’s mind and body begins slowly, first causing the ant to diverge from carrying itself in the typical mechanical fashion into something more individualistic.

In what is essentially a trance, the ant cuts away from the ant assembly line and heads straight to a large concentration of fellow ants. The ant methodically cleans itself before using the last of its life-force to grip onto whatever is closest to it. If the uncontaminated ants are lucky enough to possess knowledge of an attack of this sort, they act out of fear and desperation, tearing the shell of an ant out of its final resting place and dumping it far from ant hill. The fear and desperation displayed is for good reason; moments after being disposed of, the afflicted ant begins to grow fungus extremities which carry the same brutal fate to any other ants that come in contact. While the ant is clearly a species that maintains high numbers in order to survive as a whole, cordycep fungus will target any insect species whose numbers threaten to dominate any area of the jungle. One must wonder how long until humans and other animals find the crosshairs of Mother Nature and my piece depicts our possible future.

Mythical Creature Pen and Water Color Art

Here is a piece of art that I created for my significant other back in the day depicting a creature mourning another dying creature. I saw this image in a book that my art teacher had. I can’t remember the name of the book, all I know is that it had a ton of pictures of fairies and mythical creatures and such.

What I did was first used a fine-point pen and did all of the outlines and details. After I was satisfied with that, I used water color for all of the highlight and shading effects. Super simple technique that has some pretty cool results.

Let me know what you think. I’m very interested to hear your opinions about this scene. I think it’s super clever. Monsters and mythical creatures always seem to be depicted as horrible, scary beings. I love this image because it shows a completely new angle. Quite refreshing piece of artwork if you ask me.
